After the Winnipeg Jets assisted the New Jersey Devils & New York Islanders in their quests for a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference by giving them easy wins, we will have to see if they are still in a generous mood and help the Washington Capitals out today as well.

The Capitals are sitting just 1 point out of the East’s final wildcard spot (with 2 games in hand on the Detroit Red Wings), but the Devils and Islanders are nipping at their heels in a tight race. Washington has been playing well lately, going 4-1 over the past 5 games as Alexander Ovechkin has re-discovered his scoring touch (up to 24 goals on the year after starting out slowly).

Looking at the potential goaltending matchups, here are the stats for the masked men this season (courtesy of ESPN).

The Winnipeg Jets shut out the Washington Capitals 3-0 when these franchises last met in Winnipeg (March 11th), so I am sure the hometown Caps will be looking to return to favour. Here is how the two squads look head-to-head:

Will the Jets rebound from a couple less than stellar performances or will they continue to make the Eastern Conference wildcard race more interesting by handing a victory to another team in the hunt?

Hopefully acting head coach Scott Arniel has a trick or two up his sleeves, as it is imperative for Jets fans’ sanity that Winnipeg has a bounce back game. Join us here in an hour or so to discuss the game. Cheers.
