Dustin Byfuglien fined for slashing

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien was fined $2 500 for slashing Johnny Gaudreau last night.

The fine has few consequences, but will count against his record if he gets called for a hearing again. This will make him a repeat offender (I forget if he has already been fined this season) which simply means he loses more salary if he gets suspended.

I missed the game and did not see the play in question, but if it was bad enough for the Department of Player Safety to deem fineable, but not bad enough to call a hearing, it was probably minor at best. There have been suspension for slashing in the past.

The Jets will play their next game against the Minnesota Wild at 2:00 PM tomorrow and thankfully there are no questions about Byfuglien being in the lineup and that the Jets will have to be playing their best once again.
