The Winnipeg Jets called up veteran defender Cameron Schilling from the Manitoba Moose this afternoon, while moving Andrew Copp to the injured reserve to make room for Schilling on the 23-man roster.
Schilling has appeared in 15 games for the Moose this season, with six assists to show for it. Last year with Manitoba he had six goals and 26 assists in 71 games played. He has six games of NHL experience under his belt, all with the Washington Capitals between 2012 and 2015. He tallied zero points and four penalty minutes during that time.
Copp has missed the last two Jets games as he deals with a concussion.
With Schilling getting called up, it raises questions as to how healthy the Jets D Corps is. Dustin Byfuglien was shaken up after hitting Jamie Oleksiak in yesterday’s game, and missed practice today, or Joe Morrow, who also missed out.
If one of the two cannot go, it would be likely that Sami Niku would draw into the lineup for the first time this year. If both cannot go, Schilling is a 30-year-old veteran of 441 AHL games, and has been one of the better defending players on the farm team this year.
