Winnipeg Jets sign David Gustafsson

The Winnipeg Jets have signed 19 year old Swedish centre David Gustafsson. He was their 2018 second round draft pick, picked 60th overall. He spent last year with HV71 in the SHL, recording 12 points in 36 games including two goals. He also played five games for Sweden’s under 20 team, recording seven assists in 12 games including three assists in five games at the World Under-20 Men’s Championships (aka the World Juniors). He also played one game with the HV71 SuperElit U20 team recording two assists in the single game.

Based on his points, he appears to be a pass-first centre who might not be the greatest scorer. According to Elite Prospects, he is a team-first player who has shown traits that bottom six centres have as well as two-way abilities. He is 6 foot, 2 inch and almost 200 pounds. It appears that he will remain in Sweden next season, meaning his contract should slide to last an extra season. He will probably not be over for the rookie tournament or training camp, but is likely for prospects camp. This story will be updated once Patrik is awake and can clarify things like where Gustafsson will play next season.
