Winnipeg Jets call up Sami Niku

The Jets are giving the young blueliner a chance with the big club.

Praise the Hockey Gods, it seems as though the Winnipeg Jets have decided to use one of their four call ups to give Sami Niku a few NHL games to end the regular season.

This is an excellent decision by the Jets. Not only has Niku earned a call up with his play all season, if the Jets need a defenceman in the playoffs, he is probably the best player available and seeing if he can handle the NHL is a great idea. He is probably an improvement on Joe Morrow and that is what the Jets need really badly right now.

Niku is fourth in rookie scoring with 52 points in 71 games which is very good for a defenceman. He is the only defenceman in the top 20. He is also tied for first in defenceman scoring, although he has fewer goals than the other player.

His logical place in the lineup would be getting some powerplay time and being used to move the puck. It is likely he will start on the third pairing.
