The Winnipeg Jets have signed 2014 fourth round draft pick C.J. Suess to a one year NHL contract. They have also signed him to an amateur try out (ATO) for the rest of the season so he can play out the year with the Manitoba Moose.

Suess was drafted as C.J. Franklin and elected to change his last name to his mother’s maiden name last summer.

Suess scored 43 points in 40 games this year. His previous high was last season with 31 points in 39 games. It is hard to say how Suess will do, but he should be more serviceable than Brandon Tanev as he has more points in his NCAA career. If anything, Suess should be a decent AHLer.

This moves allows for the Jets to reward a forward for the Moose who has played well this season as they will have an extra player. This also buoys well for the Jets who might want to start resting players to prevent injury.
