The transition to the pro game has not gone well so far this pre-season for Mikhail Berdin.

The 20-year-old was bombed on both appearances at the Young Stars tournament in Penticton. He also didn’t see any playing time in the pre-season, as Paul Maurice opted to go with Connor Hellebuyck and Laurent Brossoit on numerous occasions, plus one Eric Comrie appearance.

Berdin was sent down to the Manitoba Moose on September 28th, where he is now in competition to win a spot with the previously mentioned Comrie, and Ken Appleby. Berdin appeared in the intersquad game the Moose held on the 29th, allowing two goals as his Team Blue lost 3-2 to Team White.

With no pre-season games scheduled for the Moose, and the fact that teams rarely carry three goalies, it will be interesting to see how the competition shakes out with Appleby and Comrie, with only a few practices remaining before Friday’s season opener in Iowa against the Wild-lite.
