In a move that no one saw coming the Vegas Golden Knights have selected Winnipeg Jets forward and pending unrestricted free agent Chris Thorburn in the expansion draft tonight. There is obviously more to this selection, but this is the best possible scenario outside of Mark Stuart being selected.
In getting Thorburn, the Golden Knights have acquired a gritty veteran who is used to playing for bad teams. He may not score a lot of goals, but his grit and heart make him a key contributor on any team hoping to find success in the future.
The Winnipeg Jets stand to lose nothing off their current roster as of right now, but that could all change when the trade is announced. It is quite possible that the trade is larger as taking Thorburn, a player who was being healthy scratched by the end of the season, is quite a reach for the Golden Knights.
Goodbye Thorburn and thank you for your service.
