The new eye in the sky?

Paul Maurice has been a busy guy of late.  First he hires Jamie Kompon, then he goes out and hires another assistant coach in Todd Woodcroft.  But who is this guy?

Woodcroft was most recently the head of scouting for the Calgary Flames, and has a long resume in hockey, both at the NHL and International levels.  From 2000-2005, Woodcroft was the Minnesota Wild's video coach, and then spent one year with the Washington Capitals in the same capacity. From 2009 til 2013, Woodcroft was the head of European Scouting for the Los Angeles Kings.

As mentioned, Woodcroft also has a strong international hockey background too...

  • Video coach with Canada at the 2004 IIHF World Championship,
  • Spent a season in various roles with the KHL's Dinamo Minsk in 2008-09,
  • Has been been an assistant coach with Belarus at three world championships in 2006, 2014 and 2016,
  • He was an assistant coach with Switzerland at the 2015 world championship and,
  • Will help Team Sweden at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey as a special assignment coach.
