5-1-1 in their last seven games, the Jets have moved into a playoff spot and have the same number of points (32) as Southeast-leading Carolina. I'd feel better about them with a better goal differential and Enstrom back in the lineup.

No denying the work done by coach Claude Noel, as the Jets have moved at least temporarily into first place in the Southeast. A marathon shootout win over Toronto on Saturday completed a two-game sweep of the Leafs, although they swooned Sunday in a 4-1 loss to Ottawa. Still, 8-3-1 in their past 12 has the Jets firmly in the playoff mode. Can they keep it going?

I still don't buy the Jets as a great team with their minus-8 goal differential, but the good news is you don't have to be great to win the Southeast, which they currently lead.

They ran out of gas Sunday against the Senators, but they finished a busy week with a 3-1 mark and are 5-1-1 in their past seven games. They are 9-6-2 on the road and 6-6-0 at home. If they can rediscover the MTS Centre magic they had last year, a playoff berth could be theirs.

Enough harping on the Southeast and its weakness compared to the rest of the NHL — if not all of the four major sports. But the Jets are a third seed entering play Monday night after winning three of four.

Not only are their fans gaining a reputation as the best trash talkers in the league (see their mocking chant of "Crosby's better" at Alex Ovechkin), the Jets are giving them reasons to run their mouths. Winnipeg has played very well of late, save for Sunday's showing in a 4-1 loss to Ottawa. That was the Jets' third game in four days, though, so that kind of thing will happen. Before that, Winnipeg was 5-0-1 in its last six while climbing to the top of the Southeast and grabbing the seventh playoff spot. If this team ever really starts cooking at home (still only 6-6-0 there), a postseason appearance will be in the cards.

Scott Cullen over at TSN continues to mystify with his rankings, as they are the only ones that don't have the Winnipeg Jets within the top-14 of the league. The big win last night over Boston should certainly keep them afloat, and if they have a solid rest of the week they could perhaps end up with a a few rankings inside the top-10...
