Ok, lovers of shot quality. Here's your chance to produce compelling evidence that your favorite concept plays a significant role in the game of hockey. Derek Zona and I are offering $150 and hopefully some Colorado Avalanche swag if you can show that the shot quality involves a persistent talent at the team level that plays a significant role in the NHL over the course of a season.
As it is for me whenever I write anything about hockey, you will need to account for all other possible explanations, including shot differential, goaltending, score effects and – of course – luck. We will put all submissions to a popular vote, and I'll probably grant a veto to a handful of people just to keep the Rory Fitzpatrick crew from stuffing the ballot box.
Deadline for submissions is February 28th, 2011 at 3pm EST.
