As the True North franchise enters the final two contests of the 2023-24 regular season, their first post-season series has pretty much been determined. Yes, the Winnipeg Jets still haven’t officially locked up home-ice advantage, but can do so by either picking up a point in their last two games or with a Colorado loss to the Oilers on Thursday evening. But either way, Winnipeg’s White Out will be trying to overpower the Avalanche in the opening playoff series.
In order to get myself into tip-top shape for what is hopefully a long run, the BigOl’JetAirliner is going into the hangar for the rest of the week to get a tune up. My mechanics assure me that everything will be in tip top shape to do a recon of the Winnipeg Jets’ opening playoff series on Friday, but until then Arctic Ice Hockey will have to be satisfied with this post to discuss the games versus the Seattle Kraken (Tuesday) and Vancouver Canucks (Thursday). It is possible that a GDT will pop up to help things out, but when those articles appear is hard to predict. Unfortunately, I won’t be posting recaps like I normally do, so my apologies to anyone who relies on them to see how our Jets performed. If I have time, I may post the final shot chart and advanced stats from MoneyPuck, but will have to play that by ear.
I assure you that I am going to use the few days to chill out and not go on a road trip to kidnap Rutger McGroarty to bring him to Manitoba. While I am disappointed that I won’t get to watch the young forward in the AHL next season and think it would be better for his development to play against tougher competition (with more games), I don’t begrudge him for his decision and will look forward to him joining the Moose or Jets late next season. Best of luck with Michigan, Rutger.
Hopefully Winnipeg will get the needed 1 point tonight to lock up 2nd place when they face the Seattle Kraken at the Canada Life Centre, as they get a team winless in their last 3 contests. They also get the boon of being completely healthy with the return of Nino Niederreiter to the large contingent of players available to the coaching staff (15 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies on NHL roster).
