The Winnipeg Jets have smartly decided to shore up their centre position by trading for Sean Monahan from the Montreal Canadiens.

The price is not bad for what the Jets are getting and the fact it does not touch their current roster which is important for the Jets. They will be getting a player whose cap hit is only $2 million and has scored 35 points including 13 goals this season. The bang for their buck the Jets will be getting should be relieving for the team. They’ve struggled with Mark Scheifele being out injured and it is clear the Jets needed an upgrade. A first round pick can be a steep price, but if they make a run, it won’t be a high first rounder at all.

The Jets getting a versatile pivot is good for them and the Habs off-loading a skilled vet that they were given a first round pick to take makes this trade good for both teams for many reasons. The only loser in this trade is NHL Trade Deadline Day pundits.
