The Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars are playing this afternoon in Winnipeg just before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the BC Lions in the West Division Final. Thankfully, the Jets are playing an early game today although I doubt fans will be able to make the double header unless they leave hockey early or get to football late.

Anyways, the Stars are a good team and the Jets have come into their own even while battling some injuries and some players going through heavy grief after their friend and former teammate Adam Johnson was killed following a skate blade to the neck. The fact the Jets are third in the Central by the thinnest of margins tells you how well they have been doing even when doing Just Jets Things and having not the greatest goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck.

Hellebuyck has been struggling and as Elliotte Friedman pointed out this week in 32 Thoughts: this is the same thing that happened after he signed his last contract extension and look at how that ended up for the Jets. This is still a no sweat issue because of that, but the Jets will want better goaltending at some point and will probably need it.

The Stars are led by Jason Robertson who has emerged as a top player in the league after being drafted in the second round back in 2017. There is also Miro Heiskanen who has been strong for the Stars on defence. The Stars also have an intriguing group of players that fall under the “wait, he is still playing” list including, but not limited to: Tyler Seguin (seems to rarely be talked about), Jamie Benn (again, just rarely talked about), Matt Duchene, and Ryan Suter who I assumed to be about 40 years old and was proven correct (he is 38).

The game should be a good, close game which is always good for fans.
