The Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres are playing with the Jets in a better position than the Sabres. The Sabres recently learned that Tage Thompson will be out due to injury. The Jets do have Gabriel Vilardi inching closer to return, but he is still out with a sprained knee.

The Jets are looking to continue their good play while the Sabres are still searching for something, anything to make them into a full-blooded winning team. It has not been working. The Sabres should have exited their rebuild by now, but they have not. Instead they traded away Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart and have been middling around trying to make something stick.

The Jets have recovered from a shaky start to their season to be a much stronger team of late. Even with injuries, the Jets have been rolling along and winning the games they are expected to win and then some. The Sabres have been struggling more, not able to find their feet as they try to pull out of a lengthy rebuild.

The Jets will also be without Rick Bowness who is still off as his wife recovers from a seizure. I do not believe there have been any updates for a potential return for him. The Jets have been in Scott Arniel’s hands and it is looking more like Arniel’s tenure as the head coach of the Manitoba Moose than his previous NHL coaching jobs.
