Well, it’s finally Friday…the weekend is here.  That combined with the expected plus temperatures for Winnipeg in the upcoming days has me in a rather good mood. I’m not sure Winnipeg Jet goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is in the same frame of mind, since he is coming off his worst outing of the season.  However, Bucky tends to let things slide of his back, so it probably isn’t something that is bothering him.  At this point, I don’t know who will be in net for the Jets when they take on the Seattle Kraken this evening.  With back-to-back games and Hellebuyck apparently feeling under the weather yesterday, we may get to see Laurent Brossoit in the crease.  Since Winnipeg also plays Saturday, they both will see action this weekend regardless of the order.

What is known is that Gabriel Vilardi will be missing both games on the west coast this weekend due to an upper body injury.  I believe Winnipeg’s top-end forward depth has been shown to be lacking with Gabe’s most recent injury and that makes you wonder whether GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will make another move on Trade Deadline Friday.  There are some potential impact forwards allegedly available, including a couple of my favourites – the NJ Devils Tyler Toffoli or the Carolina Hurricanes Martin Necas.

The Kraken will be looking to make it two straight wins against our squad when they face off at the Climate Pledge Arena in Washington state.  The Jets on the other hand will want to get back in the win column to continue their chase of the Central Division title.

Will the Winnipeg Jets have a new player by the time the puck drops tonight?  Check back here for any trade deadline updates involving our Jets, as I will be updating this section throughout the day (if required).

Winnipeg’s Trade Deadline Watch

  • Nothing to report yet…..but the earlier acquired Sean Monahan has certainly been a good addition so far. Who do you want to see Winnipeg pick up?
  • BREAKING NEWS!! Chevy has pulled off a deal for forward Tyler Toffoli, while sending a 3rd rounder in 2024 and a 2nd rounder in 2025 to the New Jersey Devils. There is no 23 man roster limit after the trade deadline, so if the Jets can afford to keep 24 they may avoid having to send either David Gustafsson or Rasmus Kupari through waivers.
