After leaving Nashville with 2 undeserved points, the Winnipeg Jets likely will face an even tougher test when they visit the Dallas Stars this evening. Things have not gone well for the Peggers this season when the two franchises meet, with Winnipeg losing 3-2 and 2-0 at the Canada Life Centre and then suffering a 4-1 loss in Texas.

When it comes to the standings, the Jets don’t really have a chance to catch the Stars for the Central’s top spot, but a win tonight would have them dead-locked in points with the Colorado Avalanche when the two squads meet on Saturday. Dallas will have a chance to officially lock up the 1st place position by securing 2 points at the American Airlines Center against the Jets, so Rick Bowness and company should expect a hard-fought contest.

There is no news yet on any potential lineup changes for Winnipeg, but with at least a day rest between their final regular season games, the coaching staff could choose to ride Connor Hellebuyck to the finish line. Not that I am suggesting that is a good idea, but past history makes me think he will likely start in at least 3 of the 4. If they bothered asking me, I would suggest going with Laurent Brossoit tonight in order to have a well-rested Bucky ready for the more important clash with the Avs on the weekend. After allowing two games worth of shots on Hellebuyck in Nashville, it would probably be best to go with Brossoit this evening.

I’m not going to dig much into the Dallas Stars in this preview, but let me assure you that this is a solidly built franchise that doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses. As the stats below will show you, Texas’ NHL team is good at scoring goals, stopping goals, and have special team units that are functioning at a high level. And then you add that the Stars have only lost 1 game out of their last 12 and you start to see how tough of a test this will be for the Winnipeg Jets.

After leaving their fans sorely disappointed after the last game (despite actually winning the game), here is my test to see if the Winnipeg Jets will get a passing grade for tonight’s match.

Tune in tonight to see if the Winnipeg Jets will get a passing or failing grade tonight in Dallas. While I really do want Rutger McGroarty to join the Jets’ organization as soon as possible, I guess I should wish him & his Michigan teammates the best of luck against Boston College tonight in the NCAA’s final four. Win your championship & then come and bring your intensity to the Jets.

Enjoy your day before Winnipeg has a chance to ruin it with another lackluster performance.
