The NHL has given us a clash between divisional rivals this Thursday, as the 1st place Colorado Avalanche (34 pts) will host the 3rd place Winnipeg Jets (31 pts). The squads have identical 2-3 records over their past 5 games, with the Jets coming in off wins over Chicago & Carolina while the Avs ended a 3 game skid by beating the Ducks on Tuesday.
Scoring goals has become a bit of an issue for Winnipeg lately, as they have only lit the lamp 8 times in the past 5 games. However, the Jets defense play has been top-notch, limiting opponents to only 10 goals in that same span.
Mark Scheifele has taken over the scoring lead for Winnipeg with 27 points, while Colorado has a very hot Nathan MacKinnon (34 pts) out in front.
Here’s how the two teams match up:
GOALS FOR/GAME: Colorado – 3.56 / Winnipeg – 3.21
GOALS AGAINST/GAME: Colorado – 2.88 / Winnipeg – 2.71
SHOTS FOR/GAME: Colorado – 31.8 / Winnipeg – 30.8
SHOTS AGAINST/GAME: Colorado – 29.3 / Winnipeg – 28.5
POWERPLAY: Colorado – 19.6% / Winnipeg – 19%
PENALTY KILLING: Colorado – 84.9% / Winnipeg – 75%
The Winnipeg Jets will be going up against one of the top teams in the Western Conference and only a full game effort will result in a victory. Let’s hope the team can find a way to come out of the gates quickly, rather than rely on Connor Hellebuyck to steal a win for them.
