Lightly snow covered Manitoba will be hosting a match up involving the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers on Thursday evening at the Canada Life Centre. While both franchises are 3-2 in their last five games, the Oilers are on the up-swing with a 3 game winning streak and the Jets are in a bit of a nose-dive with a 2 game skid.
The hometown Jets have been playing well defensively for the most part and will be hoping that they will be able to snuff out a fiery Oiler offense. Winnipeg is holding onto the 3rd spot in the Central Division and the 6th place in the Western Conference with 26 pts in 21 games. The Peggers have been led by Kyle Connor in scoring (23 pts) and Connor Hellebuyck is upping his puck-stopping game lately (.908%).
Edmonton is coming off a victory over the elite Vegas Golden Knights, so the Jets shouldn’t be fooled by the Oilers being 7th in the Pacific and 13th in the West standings. Leon Draisaitl has been putting up the points early in the season (28 pts), but the team is getting sub-standard goaltending from Stuart Skinner (.876%) & Calvin Pickard (.891%).
