Meet the Managing Editor: Cara

Hi Everyone,

As most of you know, I am Cara. I am a slightly enigmatic Jets fans who is also a Habs fan and I refuse to hide that. There is a lot you probably do not know about me. I am a teacher. I majored in History and minored in English. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, but am currently living in Swan River. I spend my summers teaching EAL to new Canadians who are mostly refugee children that have been out of school for years if they ever attended school. I am a voracious reader and tend to lean into what I have read when I write about hockey. I am also completely silly and scatter-brained when it comes to things and that can show in my recaps especially.

As for the blog, I have a lot of ideas and goals for Arctic Ice Hockey. First and foremost, I would like AIH to be the best place to get Jets news. This means there will be breaking news here and analysis that breaks down the Jets bigger moves. To do this, I will keep adding to the staff and making sure we have both quick writers and good analysts. I do not think that AIH has to be a purely stats blog, but I would like to have at least a couple writers who are strong with numbers. I believe in diverse voices and ensuring that this is not a one-note blog. I also believe that there are sometimes tough issues that need to be tackled, so there might be some articles that are not about on-ice issues.

Beyond that, I would like to build a community that remains as awesome as it currently is. It would be great if we had more reader interaction and Fan Posts. I would also like to add more AHL and prospect coverage as time goes on.

Watch this space for another call for more writers in the near future (this will depend on the Jets fate and when my report cards are due). The next round of additions will have an emphasis on adding diversity to our staff to bring in more unique perspectives.

Cara
