The Winnipeg Jets are sending at least Connor Hellebuyck to the All Star Game in Toronto. All Star Weekend is a month from now on February 3 (for the game) which means it starts February 1. That is the tail end of Hellebuyck’s and the Jets week off. This means Hellebuyck’s rest, which is important later in the season, will not be too disrupted by his little side quest to Toronto.
This is the fourth time that Hellebuyck has gone to the All Star Game. While he is usually one of the top goalies in the NHL, sometimes other teams have no other players who make an ounce of sense to send other than their goalie.
The Jets will be looking to have other players voted to go. They are Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, and Nikolaj Ehlers who seems to finally be getting the respect he deserves. While it is nice for the players to be recognized, players who do not go get an extended break so it is a true win-win.
