Right winger Eric Tangradi, who last played for New Jersey in 2019/20, has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the second round, 42nd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Tangradi has 16 points (5G, 11A) in 150 games, as well as one point (0G, 1A) in three playoff games, for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009/10-partway through 2012/13), Winnipeg Jets (partway through 2012/13-2013/14), Montreal Canadiens (2014/15), Detroit Red Wings (2015/16), and New Jersey Devils (2018/19). At the time of his trade from Anaheim to Pittsburgh, Tangradi was seen as the real quality piece coming back along with Chris Kunitz for Ryan Whitney. Things didn’t turn out that way, with Kunitz riding shotgun with Sidney Crosby to goals and points in the hundreds, three Stanley Cup titles, and Gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, as opposed to Tangradi, who would never play more than the 55 games he played for Winnipeg in 2013/14. He also never had any more than the three goals or six points he had in 2014 with the Jets or the three assists he had in each of 2013 and 2014 with Winnipeg. While he was serviceable as a defensive forward for the fourth-line during the peak of his career, he wound up being buried in the minors from 2014 onward. Tangradi finished his last NHL season with one assist in six games for New Jersey in 2018/19, along with 24 points in 41 games for AHL Binghamton. He finished his last pro season altogether nine points in 22 games for the Kazakhstan-based KHL club Barys Nul-Sultan and 13 points in 21 games for AHL Grand Rapids. Tangradi, 32, has opted to retire after having not played since the end of the 2019/20 season.
