Game 1 Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs Calgary Flames

Time: 7:00 PM CST

Channel: TSN3

Radio: ????

The Winnipeg Jets are back and playing their old friends the Calgary Flames. No love was lost between those two teams in the summer and they will lose no love this season either with only divisional games played. It shall be good.

To review: the Calgary Flames have decent forwards, defence, and goaltending. The Jets were the favourites in the play-in, but an ill-timed injury to Mark Scheifele helped lead to the end of the Jets. Scheifele is back now and the fallout from the possible slewfoot on him should be interesting.

Also interesting will be how the Jets play now. They are without Nikolaj Ehlers and do not have any of their best defensive prospects available to them as Dylan Samberg is on the Taxi Squad and Ville Heinola seems destined for the Manitoba Moose. The bulk of the transition work is going to be handled by players who are not generally leaned on for that especially without Ehlers.

At least the Jets can count on having Connor Hellebuyck in goal this year. Should be a good one there. Hopefully he is able to continue from where he left off in last year’s regular season and forget the play-in.

Prediction: Jets look a little discombobulated without Ehlers.
