Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs New York Rangers

Home sweet home for three very winnable games starting with the New York Rangers

Introduction:

The Atlantic division trip for the Winnipeg Jets started out about as successfully as the Titanic’s Atlantic trip, with bad losses this season against the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators. The Jets salvaged a win against the Buffalo Sabres and look to keep things rolling against the New York Rangers. The Jets top line of Blake WheelerMark ScheifeleKyle Connor played like the top line again. The Jets fourth line has been fantastic, with Brendan Lemieux leading the charge with eight goals since Christmas. Patrik Laine … can we send him on a chartered flight to Thunder Bay to have some Finnish cuisine at the Hoito to help him get his mojo back? It’s very good. I’m semi-serious. Connor Hellebuyck played extremely well in the last two games, while Laurent Brossoit had a rough game in Montreal.

Speaking of goaltending, Alexandar Georgiev of the New York Rangers stopped a career high 55 shots to lead the team to a 4 – 1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday. The Rangers sit seven points back of a wild card playoff spot at present, and are 6 – 3 – 1 their last ten games. The Rangers have been clear that they are in re-build mode, and have a number of players on the trade bait list, including possible future Jet, Kevin Hayes. Word is the Rangers definitely have some preferences in terms of prospects they are eyeing on the Jets.
