Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is one of three finalists for General Manager of the Year award. This award is known as the Sam Pollock Award in my head.
GM of the Year nominees: Cheveldayoff (WIN), McPhee (LV) & Yzerman (TB). This voting takes place after the second round, by a mixed panel of voters.

While it is likely George McPhee will win this award, let us take a moment to remember the time that McPhee was a conduit in a trade between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins as the Penguins traded fro Derrick Brassard. The reason he was the conduit? So the Jets would not get Brassard. Instead, Cheveldayoff traded for Paul Stastny on the trade deadline and while Brassard is fine, Stastny is better and that is just funny now.
In all honesty, this has been a very slow burn for Cheveldayoff to get to this point and while he deserves praise for staying the course, this might be a tough summer ahead thanks to the salary cap. Good news though: Jacob Trouba wants to stay and it is supposed to rain again in the city!
