The Winnipeg Jets are buyers right now and are looking to add a third line centre to play with Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine. After missing out on Derick Brassard thanks to Vegas Golden Knights shenanigans, the Jets have turned their attention to the Montreal Canadiens and Tomas Plekanec.
Feeling more than a rumour at this point. Multiple sources tell me #NHLJets are pushing for C Tomas Plekanec, who is scratched for Habs tonight. Word is plan to centre 3rd line w/ Laine and Ehlers, move Copp to 4th line with Lowry and Armia.

This would be an excellent move for the Jets. While Plekanec is not as offensively gifted as Brassard is at this point in his career, he is not a void of offence like his stats might suggest as the Habs themselves are void of offence. Instead, this would bring the Jets a solid veteran who has good playoff experience, can play on the penalty kill, and take defensive zone starts.
To help facilitate the move the Habs would probably have to retain salary, which they seem to be willing to do. The cost is thought to be about that of a third round pick, but that is all speculation at this point.
