Michael Spacek signed by the Winnipeg Jets

Seven hours before their rights expired, the Winnipeg Jets signed fourth round pick Michael Spacek to an entry level contract. Spacek has spent the past two years playing for the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL. In his rookie season (draft+1) he recorded 18 goals and 36 assists for a total of 54 points. This past season he improved upon those stats and recorded a 30 goals and 55 assists for a total of 85 points while playing in more games. Spacek has also played for the Czech Republic at three World Under 20 Championships and two World Under 18 Championships.

Spacek is an offensively capable player who should play for the Manitoba Moose next season. He will hopefully be able to adjust to professional hockey in Manitoba as smoothly as he did to the WHL and help the Moose improve. He will hopefully continue to develop and turn into a NHL player one day.

The contract puts the Jets at 31 contracts, well below the 50 contract limit.
