Jets sign RFA Eric O’Dell to 1 year, 2-way deal worth 600k in NHL

The picture for the bottom 6 players in the Winnipeg Jets lineup got that much more murkier this evening, as the team signed RFA Eric O`Dell to a 1 year deal that would pay him $600,000 in the NHL. The 23 year old Centre has yet to be called up by an NHL squad, let alone play a game. This is in spite of the fact that he has 41 goals in 98 career AHL games with the St. John's IceCaps after a productive career in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves.

Of the candidates to play in the bottom 6 for the Jets this year, O`Dell is the least proven with 0 NHL games to his credit. What he does have that the others don’t is a two-way contract that is exempt from waivers, meaning he is likely to be in St. John”s when the season starts, but is very easy to call up. It will be interesting to see how he and Matt Halischuk can do, as they are more known for their offensive prowess than their defensive skills. O`Dell scored on 20.1% of his shots with the farm last year.
