Top Ten Prospects (stats since start of 2017-
1. Mark Scheifele – Barrie Colts (OHL) – 9 GP – 9G – 6A – 15PTS – +5 – 13PIM
The Scheifster was dominant again, and he finished 13th in the OHL points race despite only playing 45 games. His goal scoring has really taken off this year, despite playing 2 fewer games than last season he had 16 more goals. The Colts are playing Kingston in the opening round of the OHL playoffs.
2. Jacob Trouba – Michigan Wolverines (NCAA) – 8 GP – 4G – 3A – 7PTS – 0 – 18PIM
I cannot wait until this kid joins the Jets' blueline, because he is dominant at the NCAA level. Despite the Wolverines finishing their season in 7th, they have progressed to the CCHA semifinals, in large part due to the play of Trouba.
3. Adam Lowry – Swift Current Broncos (WHL) – 12GP – 6G – 5A – 11PTS – +5 – 17PIM
11 points in 12 games was a bad month. That should say something. One of the few prospects that I feel confident will transition well into a pro hockey player.
4. Edward Pasquale – St. John’s IceCaps (AHL) – 4 GP – 0-2-2 – 3.18GAA – .885 SV%
I'd be concerned about his numbers, but he's one of only a handful of decent players on the farm, and just got off a stint warming the bench for the Jets because they know as well as I do that this kid has some serious skill. Too bad the IceCaps don't, except for…
5. Eric O`Dell – St. John’s IceCaps (AHL) – 10GP – 8G – 6A – 14PTS – +0 – 2PIM
This guy is having his best season ever, leading the IceCaps in points. He was recently named AHL player of the week, at 21 he still has beaucoup upside.
6. Scott Kosmachuk – Guelph Storm (OHL) – 13GP – 6G – 6A – 12PTS – +0 – 12PIM
Kossy has done quite well for the Storm this year, and has helped them into the playoffs where they will take on Kitchener.
7. Ivan Telegin – St. John’s IceCaps (AHL) – 0GP – 0G – 0A – 0PTS – +0 – 0PIM
Being out with "concussion like symptoms" since January 13th means a whole lot of zeros in the stat column for the speedy Russian. He makes the rankings, because if Scott Cullen can be silly, then so can I.
8. Connor Hellebuyck – U. Mass. -Lowell (NCAA) – 10GP – 8-1-0 – 1.22GAA – .953 SV% – 2 SO
Holy Toledo has this guy played well, not only in the past month but all season. Hellebuyck was named 'Goaltending Champion' in the NCAA Hockey East Conference. He was also named to the All-Rookie team.
9. Zach Yuen – Tri-City Americans (WHL)– 14GP – 4G – 9A – 13PTS – +2 – 14PIM
After a sluggish start to the season, Yuen rebounded nicely to finish strong. I say this every time, but this kid could skate circles around most Jets players. Solid 4th round pickup.
10. Jason Kasdorf – R.P.I. (NCAA) – 7GP – 4-3-0 – 1.85GAA – .919 SV% – 1SO
Kasdorf also fell off a bit, but is still a nice surprise as he is one of 3 goaltenders on this list, a position most thought the Jets were rather thin at last offseason. Not bad for 157th overall.
Dropped out: Ryan Olsen – Kelowna Rockets (WHL) – 11GP – 2G – 1A – 3PTS – -1 – 6PIM
St. John’s IceCaps – AHL
