Wednesday Morning Altitude Check: NHL Trade Deadline news and notes

Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets and elsewhere in the NHL.

Here is what's in the news for Wednesday, April 3, 2013:

Winnipeg Jets' news:

Welcome to the fold, Jacob Trouba: “I’m proud to be signing with the @NHLJets,” Trouba said via his Twitter account. “Looking forward to starting my career with a great organization.” [Winnipeg Sun]

On the topic of prospects, here is a run down of the final team’s remaining in the 2013 Frozen Four Tournament, including Connor Hellebuyck’s UMass-Lowel Riverhawks. [SB Nation]

Chris Johnston dissects what will likely be Winnipeg's greatest addition; Jacob Trouba: "For Cheveldayoff, it’s all about finding the right fit long-term for his group, which is why the best move for him arguably came Tuesday night when highly-touted prospect Jacob Trouba signed an entry-level contract after deciding to leave the University of Michigan. The promising defenceman is on his way to Winnipeg and might be the only addition of note for a Jets team trying to stay inside the playoff picture." [Sportsnet]

Jeff Hamilton lists three big-name players the Jets could be interested in before 3:00PM EST today. [CBC]

Kevin Cheveldayoff notes that he could be looking at buying and selling today: "You can be both, I think. It just depends on what you're looking for. If you're just buying rentals, it's one thing. If you're looking for things with term, it's another. We're going into a unique situation here too, with the salary cap moving down. You have to be open for anything, at this point and time. There are lots of different options out there. It's one of those things where if any action is going to happen, it's probably going to happen late." [Winnipeg Sun]

The Hockey Writers crew seems to think it will be a quiet day for Chevy as the team is stuck in purgatory. [The Hockey Writers]

Our pals at Jets Nation get in on the trade deadline circus as well, stating that today TNSE reaches the fork in the road: do they continue with the rebuild by acquiring value for expiring contracts or go for broke in hopes of reaching the 2013 NHL post season? [Jets Nation]

Are the Winnipeg Jets becoming a model franchise? Matt Eichel seems to think so. [Jets All Out]

Around the NHL:

Comprehensive coverage of the Dallas Stars trade of Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins for an array of prospects and draft picks. [Defending Big D, SCOC]

The Stars weren’t done there as they also jettisoned Derek Roy to the Vancouver Canucks for a second round pick and defenceman Kevin Connauton. [Defending Big D, Nucks’ Misconduct]

Ryane Clowe is also on the move as the San Jose Sharks continue their exodus, flipping the rugged winger to the New York Rangers for draft picks. [Fear the Fin, Blueshirt Banter]

The Carolina Hurricanes could be looking to add some help to their back-end after Joni Pitkanen was removed from last night’s game on a stretcher. Pitkanen was racing to beat out an icing when he fell awkwardly into the boards, injuring his ankle and ending his season. [SB Nation]

Is it time for the Minnesota Wild to start offloading some of their prospects? [Hockey Wilderness]

How will the Detroit Red Wings look to improve their roster tomorrow? [Winging it in Motown]

Finally, your updated TSN Trade Bait board, still without any Jets' representation. [TSN]
