The Winnipeg Jets were looking to put up their second 8 game winning streak of the season when they went up against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday evening. Lets find out if the True Northers could keep up their winning ways…
GAME RECAP
Due to time constraints this morning, the recap will be very short. The Lightning came out of the gates well rested after a week off and it showed. The Jets have had 14 contests in the past 27 days and that possibly impacted their own intensity as they chased the puck for most of the match.
Things fell apart early when the Tampa forecheck repeatedly caused Winnipeg’s defense to turn pucks over in their own zone. This resulted in the Bolts’ 1st period goal when Jake Guentzel wristed one by Eric Comrie from the high slot. Tampa Bay extended their lead with two early goals in the middle frame as they continued to dominate the game. The Jets got a bit of a break when a Colin Miller point shot bounced off Adam Lowry’s backside, deflecting by Andrei Vasilevskiy to make it 3 to 1.
The Winnipeg Jets were able to out-shoot the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd period 11 to 5, but it never really felt like they were going to mount a comeback. An empty netter with Comrie on the bench finished up the game’s scoring and that was all there was for a very forgettable contest.
