A recent report from Darren Dreger of TSN has indicated that General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and restricted free agent Cole Perfetti have come to an agreement on a contract. The young forward will now get to re-join his teammates at training camp after missing less than a week.
On the Dreger Report, the analyst is indicating that the Winnipeg Jets have agreed to a 2 year deal with a yearly salary of $3.25M. Based on recent reports that indicated that Perfetti’s agent was asking for something in the range of $3.5/yr, using the Ottawa Senators’ Shane Pinto’s contract as a comparison ($3.75M), it sounds like a reasonable compromise.
With this transaction, Winnipeg will now have either $3,351,309 or $3,526,309 in cap space remaining with a full NHL roster (14F/7D/2G), depending on whether Kaapo Kahkonen or Eric Comrie ends up backing up Connor Hellebuyck. Come trade deadline time, the accrued cap space saved throughout the season will give the Jets’ front office plenty of room to add talent for a playoff run.
PuckPedia has recently included the transaction on their site as well, so I am taking it as official news. The graphics below outline Cole Perfetti’s career stats, as well as a more in-depth look at the 2023-24 campaign.
With a new contract in hand, the former 10th overall draft pick will give head coach Scott Arniel and the rest of the coaching staff the chance to see the Jets entire slew of training camp attendees in action. Winnipeg had a day off today after playing back-to-back games on the weekend versus the Minnesota Wild & Edmonton Oilers, so Perfetti will get to participate in the upcoming practices and in some of the final 4 pre-season games.
The Jets are back in action on Wednesday, so it will be interesting to see how quickly the 22 yr old gets into his first exhibition game. Great news that the final task on the GM’s To Do list finally has a check mark beside it.
