Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Time: 6:00 PM CDT

Channel: CBC, CITY, Sportsnet

Radio: CJOB

Hello out there, were on the air

It’s hockey night tonight!

The tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.

The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.

Someone roars:”Bobby Scores!”

At the good old hockey game!

The Winnipeg Jets will be playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in their first Hockey Night in Canada game of the season tonight. They will be without Nikolaj Ehlers who was placed on Injured Reserve yesterday. They will most likely keep Mason Appleton in his spot and keep Blake Wheeler on his slightly fewer minutes plan that has been working quite well. Rick Bowness should make his Winnipeg Jets Head Coach debut tonight after recovering from COVID.

The Leafs have been struggling relative to expectations. They have not been bad, but they have also not been consistent or close to it in their first five games. Sheldon Kennedy has called out his top players, saying they need to be better. The Leafs will once again be looking to perform up to expectations.

The Jets are a team that appears to think they are better than they are. They are fair value for their current .500 record and if they are able to start games on time (Vegas) and play a tight defensive game with good goaltending, they have the ability to beat any team in the league. The Leafs have a tendency to play down to the competition. Tonight’s game has the potential to be a very interesting game in what is as always, a very interesting time in Toronto.
