Winnipeg Jets trade for Nate Schmidt

I doubt the Winnipeg Jets are going to do much shopping on Free Agent Wednesday which is now the honourary July 1 at the end of July. I know, this pandemic makes time and dates irrelevant. Anyways, tomorrow is the first day of free agency and the Jets are surely sitting this one out outside of getting a back up goalie.

Instead, Kevin Cheveldayoff has been trading for players and signing them early. Outside of signing Paul Stastny and then trading for Brendan Dillon last night, Cheveldayoff has now traded for Nate Schmidt from the Vancouver Canucks for a third round pick who didn’t want to waive his no movement clause to come here until Stastny convinced him that the Manitoba Museum with the Nonsuch inside of it is 100% worth the hype and can be visited many, many times while still remaining cool.

This should work out for the Jets although Schmidt has four years left on his contract and gets paid $4 950 000 a year against the cap. This could be the start of more trades for the Jets as they both work to re-sign players and add a goalie under the salary cap. This could be a big week for the Jets cap dude whoever they are.

Outside of last season Schmidt has been good, so let’s just ignore the Canucks on-ice product for once.
