The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed Paul Stastny and are bringing him back for one season with a salary of $3 750 000 according to Elliotte Friedman.

This is a move that kind of feels like nothing, but in an era when every single dollar counts against the salary so those dollars all matter. On the other hand, Stastny is now $3 million cheaper than he was last year and he does seem to be somewhat reliable if not old now.
The Jets have been looking for a stable second line centre for years now. It is likely Pierre-Luc Dubois’ job, but Stastny can handle it. Adam Lowry seems to be the preferred piece for the third line. Stastny is fine. He can put up points and help the Jets win, but none of this is exciting. All of this is boring and predictable.
The Jets have four restricted free agents to sign including Andrew Copp and Neal Pionk. They need to find a backup for Connor Hellebuyck (or have Mikhail Berdin play as the backup) and round out their roster. They should be able to do this, but they could be cutting it close with the salary cap. Let the era of the flat cap continue!
