Game 2 Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs. Montreal Canadiens

Time: 6:30 PM CDT

Channel: CBC/Sportsnet

Radio: CJOB 680

The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens are playing their second game and we do not know who will be available to the Jets for this game. We know that Mark Scheifele will be out through game five as he has a four game suspension for an ill-advised hit that he did not have to make. Paul Stastny missed game one with an unspecified illness. We shall see if he can return tonight. Dylan DeMelo left game one with an injury and there was no update on his availability yesterday. If he cannot play tonight the assumption is that Jordie Benn will play even if it should be Ville Heinola.

As for the Montreal Canadiens, they will be trying to maintain their composure after they lost Jake Evans in the final minute of game one. Scheifele’s suspension should help with this as it takes out the idea of needing to perform frontier justice. The bad news for the Jets is that the Habs have Tomas Tatar waiting on the wings to come back into the lineup for Evans. Tatar has been excellent for the Habs throughout the three years he has been with the team even though this season has been rougher for him. Putting him back in the lineup shouldn’t hurt the team at all.

Both teams should aim to be playing a fast-paced game that will allow their goalies to shine and their skill to soar. Neither team is bad, but neither team is remarkable either and this series is not over yet even with the uphill battle the Jets are facing due to injuries and a suspension.
