Centre Andrew Ebbett, who last played in the NHL for Pittsburgh from 2013/14 to 2014/15, has retired from pro hockey. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007 by the Anaheim Ducks, Ebbett has 71 points (26G, 45A) in 224 games, as well as three points (1G, 2A) in 19 playoff games, for the Anaheim Ducks (2007/08-partway through 2009/10), Chicago Blackhawks (part of 2009/10), Minnesota Wild (part of 2009/10), Phoenix Coyotes (2010/11), Vancouver Canucks (2011/12-2012/13), and Pittsburgh Penguins (2013/14-2014/15). His career highs are 24 assist and 32 points in 2009 with Anaheim, and nine goals in 2010 with Minnesota. Despite scoring 32 points in 48 games, a 55-point pace, during the 2008/09 season, Ebbett never matched that total, winding up as a fourth-line or depth centre. Ebbett never played more than the 13 playoff games he did in 2009. He finished his last NHL season in 2014/15 with six points (1G, 5A) in 24 games, as well as 44 points in 44 games for AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. After 2014/15, he left to close out his career in Europe, finishing his last pro season with three points in 13 games for the DEL’s EHC Munchen. Also worth noting is that he won Spengler Cups with Team Canada in 2017 and 2018, and scored three points in five games for Team Canada at the 2018 Olympics. Ebbett, 38, will join the front office of SC Bern, with whom he won the Swiss National League A championship in 2016, 2017, and 2019.
