Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs. Montreal Canadiens

The Winnipeg Jets are playing the Montreal Canadiens who have a new head coach; Dominic Ducharme. Yes, yesterday the Habs announced that Claude Julien was fired and Ducharme was taking over on an interim basis. This is a big move for the franchise and one that many see as necessary over the past while as the team was struggling in multiple areas. Sometimes it is not that the coach is bad, it is just that they are not right for the group.

So the Jets are playing a team with a new coach. That is good news for them and hopefully they jump on that, but the Habs are still a solid group. Josh Anderson has been a revelation for them (big and fast) while Jonathan Drouin has improved his effort level. In short, the team is still good, but struggling and that is a deadly combination.

The Jets are not struggling, but not flying along either. They are trying to work out their whole “we are only going to play 1-2 periods a game and try and win”. It is not an effective long-term strategy and it is funny that they are trying it right now. It really makes no sense at all. But they will probably keep trying. We shall see how it works tonight.
