Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs New York Islanders

Time: 6:00 PM CDT

Channel: SN360, CITY

Radio: CJOB

The Winnipeg Jets and New York Islanders are playing tonight after the Jets torched a divisional rival tonight. It sounds like Eric Comrie might be in net again, but that could all be rumours. If he is, then the Jets biggest surprise of the season could continue. Outside of Comrie only letting in one goal, you cannot put much stock into last night’s game.

The Islanders are a good team who have played two less games than the Jets. Outside of that, they seem like they are a fine team who did lose a good player to the Seattle Kraken. The Islanders remain well coached and also have a solid goalie. That said, the Jets have been playing well including generating offence.

The Jets are the Jets. They will hopefully go back to their COVID top line which was highly effective. One of the most positive parts of this season has been Pierre-Luc Dubois. Dubois struggled last year, but now that he is more settled he is the player who he was advertised as last year. It’s refreshing to see.

Another, maybe slightly overlooked acquisition, is Nate Schmidt. Schmidt is both a good player for the Jets and good in the room. He seems to be the type of glue guy that all teams want because he both. Teams need guys like him and it is wonderful that the Jets have someone who fills that role so well. Hopefully he, and the Jets, keep it up.
