The Men’s World Juniors are almost done

Ville Heinola could be on his way to Winnipeg following the Bronze Medal Game at the Under-20 World Junior Championships in Edmonton and Cole Perfetti could be with him. Heinola has been excellent for Finland while Perfetti became a favourite of the statistician crowd when he explained how his line (or Canada) was expected to score more goals so they were not concerned about their performance.

Perfetti especially could end up with the Winnipeg Jets or the Manitoba Moose based on less than ideal circumstances. Due to the harder to control factors with coronavirus and issues with teams travelling, the CHL is not guaranteed to be operational this year. The QMJHL tried and had to suspend its season already. Due to this, the CHL has agreed to temporarily suspend their NHL/CHL agreement and players who do not make the NHL can be sent down to the AHL. The question then becomes where do you want Perfetti playing.

Heinola is in a better spot that Perfetti as he can be in the AHL or NHL irregardless of the CHL’s plans. He has also spent the year playing in Finland and has 14 points (13 assists) in 19 games there. He has also had a strong World Juniors. It would make sense for him to be in consideration for a spot with the Jets, but when it comes to Paul Maurice, he is probably barely on the radar.

The Jets should get two players who will not participate in training camp due to a quarantine period that they will undergo once they get here. They will have to decide what to due with them regardless of that. Should be a fun, non-controversial decision that all the fans agree with either way.
