Defenceman Casey Nelson has retired from pro hockey. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016 by the Buffalo Sabres, Nelson had 18 points (4G, 14A) in 93 games for Buffalo from 2015/16 to 2018/19. Nelson’s career highs are three goals and eight points in 2018 with Buffalo, and five assists in 2018 and 2019 with Buffalo. He finished his last NHL season with six points (1G, 5A) in 38 games for Buffalo as well as one point in five games for AHL Rochester. Nelson finished his final pro season with 12 points in 48 games for AHL Rochester.
The Flames signed right winger Brett Ritchie to a one-year contract. They signed defenceman Michael Stone to a one-year contract. They reassigned Ritchie to AHL Stockton. They reassigned goaltender Artyom Zagidulin.
The Hurricanes reassigned right winger Dominik Bokk to AHL Chicago.
The Blackhawks placed defenceman Nick Seeler on unconditional waivers.

Defenceman Adam McQuaid has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the second round, 55th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, McQuaid has 73 points (16G, 57A) in 512 games, as well as 11 points (3G, 8A) in 68 playoff games, for Boston (2009/10-2017/18), the New York Rangers (part of 2018/19), and Columbus (part of 2018/19). He managed to crack the NHL roster during the last years where physical hard-nosed defencemen with minimal skill were still unquestioningly valuable, and as a result was able to carve out a solid decade-long NHL career, winning a Stanley Cup in 2011 with the Boston Bruins. McQuaid has career highs of 12 assists and 15 points, both in 2011 with Boston, as well as three goals in 2011 with Boston and 2019 with Columbus. McQuaid finished his last NHL season, and professional season in general, in 2018/19 with seven points (3G, 4A) in 50 games for the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets, the first games he played for his draft team. McQuaid, 34, missed the final 15 games of the 2018/19 season and the entire postseason after sustaining a herniated disk in his neck, and wound up not playing again due to that.
