Winnipeg Jets 2021 Opening Game Roster

After telling myself I would do this right after work I fell into a hole of Anne Helen Petersson essays on celebrity culture on Buzzfeed…indicating that I didn’t need pre-season to get into regular season shape.

The Winnipeg Jets final roster is what it is. Look, in my cynical ways I cannot be overly positive about this team. There is the good, Kristian Vesalainen, but there is also the “huh”. The lack of Ville Heinola anywhere. The inclusion of Logan Stanley anywhere. But the basics of the Jets will always be there. There are some other positives: Mikhail Berdin is a great third goalie to have, it is nice that Trevor Lewis got a NHL contract, Sami Niku finally made the team out of camp, and Mathieu Perreault agreed to be waived to help the Jets out overall.

There is also the sad: Bryan Little appears to be done with hockey following a puck to the head from Nikolaj Ehlers. An unlucky accident might have ended his career. If that is the case, the Jets can use LTIR like they did this year if need be. They also might explore trading his contract to a team that needs the cap hit.

Finally, the aforementioned Ehlers is out with Covid Protocol. This does not necessarily mean that he has COVID. From the NHL’s protocols:

“All those players can’t practice, travel, or play. COVID-19-related absences can be due to a positive test, symptomatic individuals awaiting test results, mandatory quarantine, or isolation due to high-risk contact with another person who tested positive.”

So there you have it.
