Defenceman Dam Hamhuis has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the first round, 12th overall, in then 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators, Hamhuis has 356 points (59G, 297A) in 1148 games, as well as 21 points (3G, 18A) in 68 playoff games, for Nashville (2003/04-2009/10, 2018/19-2019/20), Vancouver (2010/11-2015/16), and Dallas (2016/17-2017/18). More of a shut-down defenceman, Hamhuis was nonetheless a key all-around blueliner in his prime, topping 30 points twice in his NHL career, playing big minutes for the Canucks during their brief period as Cup contenders, and even being named to play for Team Canada at the Sochi Olympics. Hamhuis has career-highs of 38 points, in 2006 with Nashville; seven goals, in 2004 and 2006 with Nashville; and 33 assists, in 2012 with Vancouver. Hamhuis didn’t win any major awards as an NHLer, did not earn any postseason honours, and never played in an All-Star Game, but did win a Gold Medal in 2014 at the Olympics. In his last season, Hamhuis scored eight assists in 60 games, his second straight season without any goals. Hamhuis, 37, did not play in Nashville’s qualifying round series, a 3-1 series loss to the Arizona Coyotes.
