Preview and GDT: Winnipeg Jets vs Ottawa Senators

Time: 1:00 PM CST

Channel: CBC, TVA, Sportsnet

Radio: TSN1290

It is Hockey Day in Canada and I am very done with afternoon games. The Winnipeg Jets are playing the Ottawa Senators in honour of the great day and of course they are playing in the afternoon. Usually all seven Canadian teams will play today with six of them playing each other. Today, the Jets get the Sens.

The Sens are bad this year. If the Jets are struggling, the Sens are who we thought they were. They started out the season surprisingly strongly, but they have not been able to maintain that level of play. In short, they are what we thought they were. They were a team that decimated itself with bad trades and interesting development choices.

One Senator to watch out for is Thomas Chabot. Chabot made headlines earlier this season by playing an absurd amount of minutes in consecutive games. I am not sure if he still is doing this, but if he is someone needs to do a wellness check on him. Chabot is essentially filling Erik Karlsson’s boots which were emptied when Karlsson was traded to San Jose. The Sens saving grace might be the fact that they have the San Jose Sharks first round pick this season as well.

As for the Jets, it is more of the same. Laurent Brossoit will start this afternoon saving Connor Hellebuyck for the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow night. That game is more important as the divisional stuff will have more impact on the standings than a game against an Eastern Conference team.
