Finally, some news on the Winnipeg Jets front! They have signed first round pick Cole Perfetti. Now, this means next to nothing, but it is news! It is good news. This will allow Perfetti to compete for a spot if the Jets are in that position. More importantly, it lets him know how the Jets view him as a player.
There are a lot of unknowns this year. They do not know when the season will start or where all the teams will play. Winnipeg and Manitoba are not safe places to be at the moment and other provinces are in equally dangerous spots; same with most of the United States of America. The NHL and NHLPA have not come out and stated how this season will look when it happens (if it happens). They have to figure out The Canada Problem which is how they will handle Canada and it’s closed border. Maybe that was the basis for the Canadian Division to begin with.
A lot of teams have been signing their first round picks recently. I do wonder if there are cap implications for teams to sign their picks earlier and those implications are going to matter in a flat cap world. That said, stay safe and have fun (at home).
