Right winger Chris Stewart has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the first round, 18th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Stewart has 322 points (160G, 162A) in 668 games, as well as 11 points (6G, 5A) in 39 playoff games, for Colorado (2008/09-partway through 2010/11), St. Louis (partway through 2010/11-partway through 2013/14), Buffalo (partway through 2013/14-partway through 2014/15), Minnesota (part of 2014/15, 2016/17-partway through 2017/18), Anaheim (2016/17), Calgary (part of 2017/18), and Philadelphia (2019/20). While a solid player early on, with back-to-back 28-goal seasons in which he had 64 and 53 points in his second and third seasons, his production badly dried up following his move to St. Louis, and really took a nosedive in the second half of the decade, culiminating in a 16-point season in 2018 preceding a season away from the NHL that saw him play in the UK’s EIHL and the Allan Cup amidst a few other NHL notable recent NHLers. His comeback this season was shortlived and he was only used sparingly as a role player, spending time in the AHL for the first time since the 2009/10, when he played two AHL games in what wound up being his career-best season. Stewart’s career-highs are 64 points and 36 assists, both attained in 2010 with Colorado, and 28 goals, also attained with Colorado in 2010, but repeated the following season as well amidst his trade to St. Louis. Stewart finished his final NHL season with one assist in 16 games for Philadelphia as well as three points in six games with AHL Lehigh Valley. Stewart, 32, announced his retirement via his Twitter account, accompanied by a charming shot of a row of patio chairs painted to look like the jerseys he wore during his NHL career.

Goaltender Richard Bachman has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars, Bachman has a 20-18-2 record, 0.903 Save%, 2.97 GAA, and two shutouts in 49 games for Dallas (2010/11-2012/13), Edmonton (2013/14-2014/15), and Vancouver (2015/16-2016/17, 2018/19). Bachman has career highs of eight wins in 2012 with Dallas, a 1.000 Save% and 0.00 GAA, in 2011 with Dallas, and one shutout in 2012 with Dallas and 2015 with Edmonton. In his last NHL season, he posted a 0-1-0 record, 0.793 Save%, 6.00 GAA, and zero shutouts in one game with Vancouver, as well as a 5-4-0 record and 0.884 Save% in nine games for AHL Utica. Bachman finished his final pro season with a 1-1-2 record and 0.909 Save% in three games for AHL Utica and a 0-2 record and 0.863 Save% in three games in Sweden with the Swedish no.2 league’s Oskarshamn IK. Bachman, 33, has been announced as the goaltending coach of the AHL’s Iowa Wild.
