Defenceman Eric Gryba has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the third round, 68th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, Gryba has 43 points (7G, 36A) in 289 games, as well as zero points in 13 playoff games, for Ottawa (2012/13-2014/15), Edmonton (2015/16-2017/18), and New Jersey (2018/19). Gryba spent his whole NHL career as a depth stay-at-home defender, only averaging more than 20 minutes per night in his rookie season on an injury-depleted Senators squad. Gryba’s career highs are 12 assists and 12 points in 2015 for Ottawa, as well as two goals, scored in each of 2013 and 2014 for Ottawa and 2017 for Edmonton. Gryba finished his final NHL season with zero points in 10 games for New Jersey and seven points in 47 games for the AHL’s Binghamton Devils. Gryba, 31, announced his retirement on his own Twitter account days after being cut from his training camp professional tryout contract with the Calgary Flames.
