Strong skating, positioning and defence are frequently among the qualities attributed to Simon Lundmark, the Winnipeg Jets’ 2nd round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

The 18-year-old split time in 2018-19 between Linköping HC of the SHL, and their J20 team in the SuperElit. He started and finished the year with the J20 squad, with a 28-game stint with the SHL team in the middle. He didn’t particularly excel defensively at either level, though 17 points in 25 SuperElit games is nothing to sneeze at, but received praise for his smooth skating and defensive abilities at both levels. He is said to be more of a stay at home defender who shies away from risky plays, using his superior skating and positioning to win battle, with a fairly good outlet pass in his back pocket to boot.

According to Christoffer Hedlund of Elite Prospects, Lundmark sticks to using simple plays, and does not tend to use his 6’2”, 201 pound size to his advantage.

Lundmark will spend the next year or two or three continuing to grow his game in Sweden.
