The Canadiens get a physical presence on defense

St. Louis Blues v Winnipeg Jets - Game Five

As reported by TSN, defenseman Ben Chiarot has signed with the Montreal Canadiens for $10.5 million over three years. Various reports had the Jets offering an AAV of closer to $3 million per season or less, and possibly one other team (Detroit) coming in around the same amount but with longer term.

Chariot’s physical presence will be missed by the Jets this season, even if he perhaps was playing a bit higher in the lineup than he should have. It may be a slight overpay for a player of his caliber, but, given the contracts being handed out, not by much. I like Chiarot, but, kudos to Kevin Cheveldayoff for not entering into a bidding war for his services.

Congratulations to Ben and best of luck with the Habs!
