Kevin Hayes has been a fan of the Winnipeg Jets for his entire life and has had ties to the organization for a long time.
His cousin is former Winnipeg Jets captain Keith Tkachuk and he was a fan of the team because of that. Even though he is from Boston, he was never a Bruins fan. It was because of his cousin that he also has a picture of himself in the best jersey the Jets never wear.
This trade also means that Hayes will get to play his first cousin once removed more as Matt Tkachuk is on the Calgary Flames. I am sure Matt will help Kevin feel right at home the next time the two teams play each other.
There will be a lot more to say about Hayes once it is confirmed where he will play and how this move impacts the Jets, however it is obvious that the acquisition of Hayes was a smart one for the Jets. They will be able to have a different style of centre on the second line if they choose to go that route. The biggest takeaway from the Hayes acquisition is that he was an adorable kid who loved the Jets and still has an excellent taste in jerseys.
